Hello!
In case you haven’t realised, I’m Whitney!
Growing up with a dad in the industry, I was raised on camera talk. I took my little point-and-shoot, with its very impressive 10x digital zoom, everywhere, mostly using it for questionable selfies before they were even a thing. Convincing Dad to drive me to the beach for sunrise was a regular request; the photos from those mornings? Let’s just say they’ve aged better in sentiment than in skill. Shoutout to Dad.
Keen to turn passion into craft, I completed a Bachelor of Photography in Brisbane and began freelancing. While weddings and family portraits taught me plenty, they didn’t really get me excited. I tell you what did though, volunteering in LA for a few months with Justice 180, a non-profit fighting human trafficking. What a time!
The experience 100% shaped the foundation of how I want to use photography: as a window into other people’s worlds. Capturing work that informs, connects, and hopefully inspires action.
In 2016, I joined Ravel and it’s been a wild and rewarding ride ever since. Checkout the Corporate page for more info.
Outside of my day job, I’ve travelled to Kenya and South Sudan with Little Drum Pictures and Carrie-Ann Greenbank, documenting the work of various NGOs. The images were featured in a fundraising coffee table book, highlighted in an article in The Age, and exhibited in an exhibition titled Displaced Perspective.
On a later trip through Europe, I photographed portraits of strangers I met along the way, pairing their images with snippets of their stories in another self-published book.
And yes—I still love heading down to the beach at sunrise with a camera in hand. Some things don’t change.
